Love it or hate it -- SNKP planning for new Metal Slug title in HD

According to an interview that IGN UK has had with SNK Playmore, a Metal Slug game in high-definition might be coming in the near future.

HD Metal Slug in the Works?
SNK Playmore says announcement 'soon'.

by Martin Robinson, IGN UK

UK, September 18, 2008 - SNK Playmore has revealed that it is looking into giving the aging Metal Slug series an HD refit, potentially taking the shooting franchise down the same path as the forthcoming King of Fighters XII.

"In order to meet our fans demands for an HD version of Metal Slug, we're considering bringing this series to the new generation of consoles in a similar way to KOF XII," said SNK Playmore in an interview with IGN to be published later today, continuing, "We look forward to announcing this someday soon."

Metal Slug 7, an all new instalment exclusive to the DS, is coming to these shores later this month.

Thanks to MarcoRossi at our forums for the heads up.

TGS2k8 Metal Slug franchise line-up -- Nothing new to see

SNK Playmore is planning to showcase three titles of the Metal Slug franchise in the upcoming Tokyo Game Show 2008. The disappointing thing is that none of them are new, but older titles released for mobile phones.

The titles planned to be showcased are;
- Metal Slug: Mars Panic (NTT DoCoMo & SoftBank)
- Metal Slug: Warriors (au by KDDI)
- Metal Slug: Fighters (au by KDDI)

I hope that SNKP is just being sneaky and hiding something in its pocket, although wishing for something new in the franchise when a major title was released not even two months ago might simply be asking for too much.

Read the rest of SNKP's (and everyone else's) franchise line-ups for the TGS 2008 in PDF format here at eXpolink, or here if the link should not work for any reason.

Metal Slug 7 soundtrack on iTunes Japan

On August 28th, Metal Slug 7 Original Sound Track ~iTunes Limited Edition~ was released via iTunes Japan. Sounds great, doesn't it? But here's a catch; you can only purchase it if you have a Japanese residential address. There is, however, a loophole that will allow foreigners to purchase it, by using prepaid Japanese iTunes gift certificate.

Individual tracks cost 150 Yen, (Approximately USD$1.40) while the entire album will set you back 2,000 Yen. (Approximately USD$18.40)

It should be noted that Ignition Entertainment already has the soundtracks available for download for free. But they have them for free for a reason; the ones up on Ignition's site have disgusting quality, ranging from very low bitrate (128kbps) to poorly edited tracks. The ones on iTunes, however, are quite the opposite. It's well worth the price if you care about the quality of your audio.

The soundtracks have been submitted to iTunes Japan by TEAM Entertainment Inc. The company has put up both promotional and information pages regarding the soundtrack.

Anyways, those of you who do want the soundtracks but have no means of doing so or cannot be bothered with the tedious process, look no further. I have went through the trouble of obtaining the tracks from iTunes and have converted them into MP3 using LAME 3.98, (Commandline -V1 --vbr-new) because M4P sucks and DRM is for losers. Click on the album cover image to the left side or, alternatively, here to get to the downloads page.

Metal Slug Zero official international site

With the closed beta test date, which is in December, fast approaching, Metal Slug Zero's development seems to be progressing smoothly.

WizHands has created an official Metal Slug Zero homepage. It still seems to be under construction as some parts of the site seem to be missing.

The site is divided into two languages, English and Chinese. My lack of skill in Chinese language forbids me from commenting about it, but the English section has a mind-boggling amount of grammatical mistakes. But, putting that aside, it does look like a good starting place to expand.

European Metal Slug 7 homepage opened

The European site for Metal Slug 7 is finally open, with only a few things being different from the U.S. site.

The only notable differences currently are that the series section is still unavailable, while the packaging section lacks the choices that the U.S. version has.
