Old news
Metal Slug Zero character animations

Claiming to have worked on animation for Metal Slug Zero, lostpola (AKA "Drunken Bear") has posted a video clip on his blog featuring several animations from the game.

There are several notable differences from the screenshots that were posted up here earlier, but that can always mean that the two are from different versions.

But I still can't shrug off the fact that they look unpolished.

Metal Slug M1

On July 1st, SNK Playmore has added a new line of series to the franchise, named the "M" series, for mobile phones.

The first game of the series, Metal Slug M1, features Fio as the playable character, a total of ninteen levels and Another Mission mode. SNK Playmore has also touted that the game retains the quality of sprite animation and features rivaling that of original games.

The game is available now in Japan. Press release for it can be read here.

These are supposed to be screenshots of Metal Slug Zero...

Two screenshots; loading screen to the left and four-player action to the right.

If these are legit, then I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am about their blandness.

Fio strips in SNK Playmore's newest cellphone game

On April 20th, SNK Playmore has made an announcement that it has released a new game named Doki Doki Puzzle Shock for mobile phones. Normally, I wouldn't be posting a news that has nothing to do with Metal Slug--except that it has something to do with Metal Slug. Kind of.

Before I bore you further with what the game is suppose to be about, here is something to grab your attention.

Now that I have your attention; yes, that is Fio, in bikinis.

Basically, players have to solve logic puzzles in order to advance and get to where the goodies are. There are three different modes; story, time attack and free mode. Fio will be the game's instructor, and it seems like a big deal since the announcement has added that it is the first game in the series that an instructor also strips.

This game is, like dozens of others released by SNK Playmore, exclusive to Japan at the moment, and will probably never set foot on foreign soil.

Metal Slug fan book

This is by far the biggest book regarding Metal Slug that has ever been made to my knowledge. And, interestingly enough, this is a fan book.

Take that, SNK Playmore! And shame on you for making the fans to do your dirty work.

The book is titled "Metal Slug: From Here to Eternity", and is created by Pangguin using various information regarding Metal Slug found on the Internet. The book itself is in Korean.

It's certainly not a lightweight dud. The thing is like 350 pages long and weighed 2kg on my scale. Inside, the book is crammed with various images, information, articles, and so on.

There are two editions of this book; limited edition, available through pre-orders and only ten of which have been printed, and mass production edition that will eventually be sold should the demand for the book be high enough. The limited edition has a total of four random covers, featuring Marco and Tarma, Fio and Eri, Trevor and Nadia or Ralf and Clark. A rather large laminated bookmark, which features one of the four random images, is also included with the package. The limited edition costs KRW30,000 won, which is about USD$22 at current exchange figures.

Apparently, there is another book planned, which will be a continuation of the current one. The book that was just released is about presenting various information, while the next book will focus on strategies and walkthroughs of the games. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the sequel will be printed.

Anyways, if you are interested in seeing more books created and sold, be sure to leave some comments here to show your support.

As a sidenote; the creator of the book is already aware of the typos on the cover images, which weren't picked up until the books were finished printing.

And, one more thing--both the creator of the book and I thank the people who have graciously sent in their comments for the book.
