Metal Slug XX -- Metal Slug 7 on PSP

Ah... Metal Slug 7... Not only has its ROM been dumped more than a full week before its retail release but it has also suffered from mediocre sales since it hit the shelves.

But fear not, as SNK Playmore has revamped the title to roll out the Metal Slug XX (or Double X, whichever you prefer). And instead of being made for Nintendo DS, it is coming out for PSP.

Metal Slug XX has several differences compared to your run-of-the-mill Metal Slug 7, including two-player mode over wireless (you asked, SNKP delivered) and better screen resolution (no more of that painful eye squinting). And, obviously, the new version does away with the bottom half of the screen that was used as level map in the NDS version.

Heck, SNKP is even pitching this as if it is an entirely new game, with completely brand new promotional artworks and website.

Oh, and, here is a trailer that SNKP released;

The game is slated to be released this year in Japan on December 23rd with price tag of 5,040 yen. No word yet when, or if, it will be coming out of that country.

Metal Slug Zero development halted and resumed before anyone even realized

As the story goes, Metal Slug Zero is being developed in two separate stages, the first having been handled by WizHands, a subsidiary of DragonFly, and the second currently being taken care of by DragonFly itself.

Apparently, the development came to a temporary halt in June when DragonFly realized that the amount of progress that WizHands has made was nowhere satisfactory enough, so DragonFly ended up snatching the project away and decided to push on by itself.

To put it bluntly; A) the development of the game has been halted but has resumed shortly after and B) the expected release date has been pushed further to the latter half of 2010.

So, basically, other than the game being delayed, there's nothing of significance here.

Metal Slug garage kits and doujinshi -- zOMGWTFBBQ

First off, Alchemist has struck again with his garage kits, adding four new models to the ones that he has already created. They happen to include the SV-002, Metal Crow, Rebel Armor and Jupiter King. The first three were on sale while Jupiter King was, unfortunately, not.

But, seriously, look at the LV Armor standing next to the Jupiter King. IT'S SO DAMNED CUTE.
Alchemist's previous products include SV-001, Melty Honey, Rumi Aikawa and SV-001|III.

Secondly, a new addition has arrived to the long-running doujinshi series of Metal Slug. Horyo "Takumi" Massigura has announced that his circle's newest doujinshi will be sold at Comiket 76. It's been quite a while since I've seen a new release of the series, so I'm actually excited to find out that the author and circle are still alive and kicking.

Metal Slug Zero development temporarily halted

After spending almost two years, DragonFly has announced that it has temporarily halted the development of Metal Slug Zero after deciding that it would be hard-pressed to release the game this year due to lack of progress to completion.

"The current level of completion of Metal Slug Zero is lower than expectation and we have decided that it would be difficult to release the title within this year, so we have stopped the development...

"The development will certainly resume but it is undecided exactly when it will happen."

Even though Metal Slug Zero got canned, development of the King of Fighters Online and Samurai Showdown Online are still ongoing.
